Jews in Syracusa

We are in Syracusa for a few days with Greg's brother, Randy  We saw what appears to be a boarded up synagogue. While checking tour information about this building, I came across an article on the Mikveh of Syracusa which is reported to be the oldest traditional Jewish bath in Europe.

Maybe we can find this before we leave today. We have a room overlooking the ocean in the area of Ortygia where the Mikvah is located.

While no reference in our tour book, Randy's tour book says you need a special invite to see the Mikveh. We wandered around St John the Baptist Church, where the synagogue was located in the past, but we could not find an entrance. Here is the same sign which is the name of several streets followed by II, III, IV, V: must be the old Jewish quarter, although the history of the Jews in Syracusa is not mentioned in our out-dated guide book.
